Hailing from Scotland, Frank’s mother, from the 60’s
for many years, bred and showed Standard Smooth & Long-Haired
Dachschunds, and Elizabeth was a professional groomer who also
raised Labrador Retriever’s and Miniature Poodles.
After arriving in Canada, Garshangan Kennels was
established in 1973, by Frank and his late wife – Elizabeth.
At that time, it was decided to have a ‘larger’ breed
of dog, and St. Bernards were ‘chosen’!
Over the next few years, many St.Bernards were shown
to their championships and in 1984, the ‘goal’ was reached by
winning the National Specialty with a ‘home-grown’ Smooth female St.
Bernard. That year, the Labrador Retriever came back into the kennel
with the purchase of Balcroft Ovation Garshangan from Balcroft
kennels. Shortly after that there came from the extremely successful
Ebonylane Kennels, Ch. Ebonylane’s Denis V Garshangan, (a.k.a.Dennis)
who was from Am.Cdn. Ch. Hollyhock’s Sam ex Am.Cdn.Ebonylane’s
Uptown Girl. After many years of driving around the country in
Frank’s van, Dennis live to a ripe old age of 14 years.
Being a groomer with a passion for smaller
long-haired dogs, Elizabeth decided to look at another breed, and a
Wheaten Terrier was brought in from Angie Debruyn’s Mariner Kennels.
This dog was Mariner’s Ailish Garshangan and she lived to a ripe old
age of 15 years
Through all of the years in a busy ‘doggy’ house,
there was one ‘other’ breed that seemed to ‘hang around’ and that
was the Doberman Pinscher. Every Dobie in the KW area that needed
‘help’ seemed to find its way to Frank & Liz’s kennel. As the
breeding of St. Bernard’s started to ‘wind down’ – the Dobermans
began to find a way into the Wright’s hearts.
Upon acquiring Murmar’s Olivia V Garshangan – the
Wrights started to compete in obedience & produce the occasional
litter of Dobermans.
The “Queen” of the house today is Olivia’s daughter,
Garshangan’s Daddy’s Girl CD,CGC (Xena) and she has taken over
Denis’s spot, riding around in the van with Frank.
Xena has had 2 litters, the first
with Ch. A’monds Volcano produced 2 champions, Ch. Garshangan’s
Cover Girl (Claudia) & Ch. Garshangan’s Red Hot Chilipepa ,C.D.
(Kenya), who achieved her CD at 10 months of age. Her
second
litter by Ch.
Liberator’s Valentino, produced 4 champions – Ch. Garshangan’s
Legendary Torque, Ch. Garshangan’s Legendary Dyna, Ch. Garshangan’s
Next Top Model & Ch. Garshangan’s Cassandra.
We feel quite honoured to have been able to use such
a great stud dog as ‘Legend’ - this has brought us ‘light years’
into the breed.
Recently, we bred one of our females, Ch.
Garshangan’s Next Top Model to
Ch. Liberator’s
Without Remorse, and again we have been extremely pleased with
this combination – the future looks ‘quite bright’ at Garshangan
Kennels.
That’s about us!
